Who is Jesus, really?
In His own words.

Whether you’re still deciding about Jesus, new to faith, or decades in, this book gives you a safe place to look at what He actually claimed about Himself — in His own words, without pressure and without the noise. Then it shows how the resurrection He predicted in advance validated every one of those claims, and why that is the sturdiest hope a person can hold.

Read it on your own, or teach it with the companion workbook.

Who is this book for?

If you are not a believer, or not sure. This is a safe place to look. No pressure, no assumed belief, no altar call. You may have real objections — to the church, to Christians, to things done in Jesus’ name. This book does not argue with them. It asks a narrower question, and the one that has to come first: who did Jesus say He was, and did He back it up? Everything else about Christianity rests on that answer. If He was wrong, the rest does not matter. If He was right, the rest looks different. The book gives you His own words and the record of what followed, and lets you weigh them the way you would weigh any account of a man who said extraordinary things and then had to answer for them.

If you are new to the faith. You have said yes to Jesus, and now you want to know Him. Three questions come first: Who is Jesus, really? What did He say about Himself? What difference does that make to me? This book answers all three from Jesus’ own words, in plain language, one claim at a time.

If you have walked with Christ for years. You have heard the eight I AM statements all your life: the bread of life, the light of the world, the good shepherd, the resurrection and the life. Have you seen how deep they go? When Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd,” He was echoing David — “The LORD is my shepherd” — and answering Ezekiel, where God promised to come and shepherd His scattered people Himself. Jesus claimed the office and the God behind it. None of the eight stands alone. Each one reaches back into what the Old Testament had already revealed about God, and each one shows you His character: He provides, He guides, He lays down His life for His own, He raises the dead. The better you know who He is, the more settled you can be in whose hands you are. That is where a believer’s peace comes from, and joy, and a hope that holds.

If you teach. The book was written in a Sunday school classroom and built to be taught. A companion workbook will follow, with an 18-week plan, a leader’s guide, and a student guide, so a class or small group can work through it together.
